EAS Rolls Out New CHANCE® High Capacity Pile in the Northeast

“Everyone at EAS is excited about what the new CHANCE High Capacity Pile will mean for our customers here in the Northeast” relays Alex Raposo, President of Earth Anchoring Suppliers. “This new 2-7/8” round shaft helical pile will have higher capacities while being more cost effective for many typical applications.”
The new High Capacity Pile leverages CHANCE’s comprehensive in-house testing capabilities and materials acquisition experience. Kelly Hawkins, Engineering Manager, New Product Development at Hubbell Power Systems, Inc. (the parent company of CHANCE) explains, “We’re using alternative sourcing options for new, unused pipe. By keeping strict guidelines, a minimum strength requirement of 80 KSI, we’re able to offer a competitive high capacity round shaft pile.” Hawkins background as a design engineer helped the process because she knew when and where she could “push” the process and/or hold the line with the mandatories. Hawkins stated, “Our extensive in-house testing means we keep tight control on the variables. The result is a consistent and reliable final product.” she continued “Working with our design engineer and team, we focused on the three ‘must haves’; minimum 80 Kip capacity, 10,000 ft/lbs of installation torque and galvanization.” When asked about any “hurdles” she and her team needed to overcome in the development process, Hawkins added, “The major hurdle, as expected, was variability in materials. Our internal process is designed for these variabilities - resulting in consistent results for the high capacity piles” she concluded, “We are using welded sleeves for our extensions, and not upset, in our manufacturing process. This has had a positive effect on the capacities we’re achieving.” Raposo had an advisory role in this new product development process, “I’ve been impressed by the CHANCE team, their resourcefulness and uncompromising follow through to bring this cost saving, quality round shaft pile to market. This is going to help solve a lot of challenging projects for applications needing to get a high capacity and stay on budget.” Moving forward, both EAS and CHANCE will be working closely with installers, engineers and contractors to help best understand upcoming needs and desires as CHANCE® looks to expand the offerings of their new High Capacity Pile. |
