The Project: Installation of eleven Transmission Line Tower custom CHANCE grillages, anchored by helical piles.
The Situation: On the north shore of Boston, the large towers were being placed in an environmentally sensitive area which didn't allow the use of concrete. Plus, it was important to have existing power lines stay active.
The Solution: CHANCE SS200 RCS leads that transitioned to CHANCE RS3500 round shaft piles went from 60 to 90 feet deep into the organic-heavy soils in a marsh along a municipal bike path. Foundations were installed for eight tangent towers and three dead-end tower sites. Grillages consisted of three piles for dead-ends and eight piles for tangent. The use of smaller installation equipment resulted existing power lines remaining active plus shorter time to install and increased savings.
