CASE HISTORY 1
The Olyola residence’s sit on the banks of the Passaic River. The Passaic frequently floods and the family is forced to evacuate to higher ground. With financial assistance from the FEMA and the State of New Jersery both structures were lifted 12 feet off the ground. Shore Helical installed a total of twenty one CHANCE® SS150 new construction piles to support an ultimate load of 60 kips (30 tons). A new footer was formed/poured and 10’ high block walls built, leaving 25% open for future flood water to flow through. The houses were set back in place and the homeowners moved back into their house, now with a great view! Many of the salvageable houses in New Orleans are also being rebuilt in this way.

CASE HISTORY 2
For this challenging project, Shore was contracted to install eight AB Chance SS175 helical piles to support a new elevator shaft inside the Weiner library. To access the site, a Kumatsu PC 30 excavator was driven up a flight of stairs and maneuvered into position twenty feet above the basement floor. Because the library was still in use, exhaust fumes had to be constantly directed out of the building.

CASE HISTORY 3
Due to poor soil conditions the architects specified piling. Shore Helical submitted the winning bid and commenced installing ninety eight Chance® 2 7/8" round shaft piles with new construction bracket. Each pile provided an ultimate load of 40 kips. The project was completed on time and under budget.

CASE HISTORY 4
This two part project involved installation of sixteen AB Chance SS5 piles (with timber brackets) to support four bridges at a 500 unit housing complex. Each pile was installed to an ultimate holding capacity of five tons (10 kip), During installation Shore Helical was approached by the project's electrical contractor and asked to submit a proposal for twenty street light foundations. The contract was awarded and Shore installed all AB Chance Instant Streetlight Foundations in one day for well below the cost of traditional concrete foundations.

CASE HISTORY 5
This project involved the installation of twenty five Chance® SS175 piles (with underpinning bracket) to support a two story apartment building that had experienced considerable settlement and cracking. The piles were installed to 62 kips ultimate capacity (31 tons). During the installation Shore Helical encountered a 6" concrete floor at six feet below grade that had not been detected when test borings were done. Only three pile locations were effected and the concrete was jack hammered, excavated out of the way and the remaining three piles successfully installed. Unknown obstructions such as old foundations, cisterns and municipal debris are common in densely populated urban areas. Through engineering, testing and common sense Shore Helical is able to meet each challenge with an individual solution.

CASE HISTORY 6
The township of Middletown, NJ commissioned construction of a canopy structure at its recycling center but testing revealed unstable soil conditions. Shore Helical installed Chance® SS5 material to a depth fourteen feet per pile for an ultimate capacity of 20 kips. The footing was poured immediately after saving time and money for the client. This project was completed in less than three hours with no disruption to the excavation.

CASE HISTORY 7
Shore was contracted by Furino Construction of Plainfield, NJ to install twenty four Helical Pulldown® Micropiles at PSE&G’s Essex Switching Station in Newark, NJ. PSE&G is in the process of upgrading it’s foundations for large gas filled capacitors but due to unsuitable subsurface conditions additional support was required. SS150 piles were installed incased in 4” schedule 40 steel pipe to 35’ below grade. The area where the work was performed was strictly sectioned off as the switchyard is a high voltage area and can be dangerous if proper safety precautions are not followed. PSE&G conducted several levels of safety training for everyone involved in the project before allowing work to begin. Shore completed the job in two days as described in the scope of work. |
